CGD Intern Receives National Award

By | News | No Comments

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) recently named Brad Benjamin, an intern architect with Craig Gaulden Davis, 2007 Associate AIA Member of the Year. This annual award, the highest honor presented to an individual Associate AIA member, is given to Associate AIA members who are exemplary leaders and have demonstrated a strong commitment to both their AIA component and their community. The AIA currently has nearly 15,000 Associate AIA members.

The Awards Jury expressed that Benjamin’s contributions to AIA Greenville and AIA South Carolina, as well as the National AIA organization, have been extraordinary and that, “through his commitment to his community, Brad exemplifies the future of the architecture profession. His efforts promote quality both inside and outside the profession, and in both the built and natural environment.”

AIA President R.K. Stewart, FAIA, presented the award at the AIA National Convention in San Antonio, Texas, on May 4.

Anderson University Opens New Library

Anderson University in Anderson, SC, cut the ribbon on its new library in April. The University welcomed students and area citizens to enjoy the results of the largest construction project in the University’s history. The library, designed by Craig Gaulden Davis is named in honor of brothers Tom and Sam Thrift, whose lead gift allowed the project to go forward.

The building features expansive space for the growing collection, a seminar room, a music lab, an education studio, an art gallery, a late night computer lab and an upscale internet cafe.

David Dixon, CGD’s principal in charge of the project, noted during remarks at the dedication ceremony that the building “builds upon the vernacular of the campus and conveys its powerful status within the campus, but still welcomes patrons to enjoy it fully.”

Barry Ray, director of marketing and communications for Anderson, has his own take, “all our students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends will carry their heads a little higher. This is certainly a facility to be very proud of.”

Anderson University is a comprehensive university affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention offering bachelors and masters degrees in approximately 50 areas of study. Dr. Evans P. Whitaker is the current president of the university.
