USGBC’s Southeast Regional Committee Members

CGD architect John Hansen has been elected to serve as the 2013 Chairman for the US Green Building Council’s Southeast Regional Committee (SERC). In this role, he hopes to advance the outstanding leadership and work this committee has provided to the US Green Building Council and its affiliated chapters in the southeast and across the nation.

The US Green Building Council (USGBC) is a non-profit 501(3)(c) organization that promotes sustainability in how buildings are designed, built, and operated. USGBC is best known for the development of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating systems. SERC consists of 26 representatives from 13 chapters located in 9 southeast States, and is responsible for facilitating collaboration and strengthening partnerships between USGBC chapters. It creates valuable tools to help chapters advance their missions. Annually it hosts the “GEAR UP” Leadership Summit which provides inspiring training to Chapter leaders and volunteers on a variety of topics including strategic planning, leadership fundamentals, fund development, and growth management.

Hansen has been the South Carolina representative on the SERC since 2009 and has served as the 2011-12 SERC Vice Chairman, Chairman of the 2011 USGBC-SERC Leadership Summit, 2010 Chairman of the USGBC South Carolina Chapter Board, and Chairman of the USGBC-SC Sustain SC 2009 Conference and Expo. He was the first Chairman of the USGBC-SC Upstate Branch, which was founded in 2007.
