Augusta Groundbreaking Focuses on Local Children

By | News | No Comments

The Augusta Richmond County Public Library celebrated their ground breaking September 22, 2008 with a collection of performances and presentations from local children and honorable guests. “It’s a happy day,” said Jane Howington, library board president. “This is the public library for this whole area. To have all these children down here today is symbolic. This is the hope of the future.”

Several local schools participated in the ceremony by performing ROTC drills, singing special songs and reciting poetry. Notable speakers including Mayor Deke Copenhaver, Augusta’s own author Karin Gillespie, Jane Howington, Millie Klosinski, gave special remarks. At the conclusion of the ceremony, everyone was invited to grab a shovel and dig.

The construction of the new 3-story, 90,000 square foot library is expected to be completed June 2010.
