Palmetto Middle School is a 162,000 square foot replacement facility designed to better accommodate present-day pedagogy and growing student enrollment. Built on an existing site, the school was phased for construction to start in the summer of 2019 with the final phase completed in August 2021.

Phase I includes the design of 6th and 7th grade two-story learning communities with clusters of classrooms and a shared collaborative space that allow teachers to combine efforts and for students to engage in active and project-based learning. Science labs, guidance counselors, and administrative offices were placed within each learning community to support each grade level.

Phase II will include new construction of a gymnasium with theatrical performance stage and lighting, music and art rooms, Gateway to Technology classroom, and elective classrooms. Renovation of an existing classroom wing will become the 8th grade wing with a science lab, classrooms, collaboration space, guidance, and administrative suite.

Mobile chairs and tables offer classroom flexibility as curricular needs change throughout the day and commons areas with tiered seating between learning communities are for collaboration, individual study, or social space.

With layered systems of security and video surveillance, today’s K12 learning environments place the highest priority on both student success and safety.
