Wren Middle School, designed simultaneously to Palmetto Middle School, is a new 155,600 square foot replacement facility designed to better accommodate present-day pedagogy and growing student enrollment. Built on an existing site, the school was phased for construction starting in the summer of 2019 with the final phase to be completed in December 2021.

The design included relocating the front door of the school creating improved parking for visitors and faculty and a new identity for the school.

Phase I includes new construction of 2 two – story learning communities, designed 6th and 7th grade, with clusters of classrooms and a shared collaborative space that allows teachers to combine efforts and students to engage in active and project-based learning. Science labs, guidance counselors, and administrative offices are located within each learning community to better support those students. A new collaborative learning stair, media center, and administrative offices were designed. Phase I also includes renovating an existing 8th grade wing.

Phase II will entail the construction of a new cafeteria/kitchen, gymnasium and Gateway to Technology classrooms.

Phase III will include state-of-the-art music and art rooms and elective classrooms.

Mobile furniture, tiered seating, and many common areas offer the flexibility needed for 21st Century curriculums; these features support success through collaboration, individual study, or social space.

With layered systems of security and video surveillance, today’s K12 learning environments place the highest priority on both student success and safety.
