Craig Gaulden Davis, as a member of design-build team led by contractor M.B. Kahn, has been selected to design the first building for Tri-County Technical College‘s new Anderson, SC campus.

CGD has designed a two-story, traditional brick structure intended to establish a precedent for future buildings on the campus. The initial building will house general classrooms, a science laboratory, a culinary arts laboratory, a multipurpose room and administrative and faculty offices.

Tri-County Technical College, whose main campus is near Pendleton, SC, is a public, two-year community college that primarily serves the citizens of northwest South Carolina. The new site will broaden mission of the College and offer easier access to Anderson County residents.

Craig Gaulden Davis, in association with LS3P Associates of Charlotte, received an Honor Award at the Design with Brick 2006 awards presentation, held during the AIA South Carolina Spring Meeting Awards Celebration in Columbia. CGD was one of six architectural design teams recognized for exceptional skill and creativity in designing with brick. The biennial competition was hosted by Brick SouthEast.

The team won the Honor Award for the Spring Street Parking Garage in Greenville. The seven-story structure adds 912 much-needed off-street parking spaces without disrupting the flavor and scale of downtown Greenville. Originally designed to fill an entire city block, the structure maximizes the efficiency of the site by reserving 40 feet from the street sides for future development of streetscapes and mixed-used development.

Design with Brick 2006 sponsors include Boral Bricks Inc., Carolina Ceramics Brick Company, Cherokee Brick & Tile, Columbus Brick Company, Cunningham Brick Company, General Shale Brick, Hanson Brick, Henry Brick Company, Jenkins Brick Company, Lee Brick & Tile Company, Nash Brick, New London Brick Works, Old Carolina Brick Company, Palmetto Brick Company, Pine Hall Brick Company Inc., Statesville Brick Company, Taylor Clay Products Company and Triangle Brick Company.

Saint Mark United Methodist Church in Seneca, SC, has engaged Craig Gaulden & Davis to develop designs for the addition of administrative and multipurpose space and for renovations to the music suite and sanctuary.

The church was founded in 1874 as the Union Church and took its present name in 1951. Dr. Stephen Morgan is Senior Pastor.

The design study is the next step in a process that began in 2004 when CGD prepared a Master Plan. The results will form the basis of a capital campaign expected to begin in April.

SYS Constructors of Greenville has been hired to provide estimating and construction services.
