Serving northern Greenville County, the new Blue Ridge Branch Library sits atop a gently sloped, wooded site, located near both Blue Ridge Middle and Blue Ridge High School, in a rural, yet growing community that is located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountain Range. The new 13,000 sf library is aimed at becoming a community hub for the area that has been served publicly solely by the Greenville County Library System Bookmobile. The new library is expected to be heavily utilized by the community for its large meeting space, dedicated children’s area, and multiple collaboration areas throughout the library.
The library’s design takes notes from mountain architecture that blends rustic elements with natural materials inspired by mountain landscapes with a slight modern twist. Taking cues from nature, the design uses abstracted foliage and underbrush inspired materials, textures and finishes that are harmoniously paired with blue and green color tones and a mix of wood tones to add warmth. The open floor plan and building orientation allow for abundance of natural light while providing open views into and out of the library spaces. This open plan also allows for flexibility for the evolving library needs, up-to-date technology, various seating options, and computer stations centrally located to the main entrance allow for easy use for patrons.
