Out of respect for the educational history of the area, Craig Gaulden Davis designed the exterior of a two-story, 560-student school to reflect the traditional Georgian style of two former schools. While the exterior features red brick, a cupola and a portico with white columns the interior is anything but traditional.

Patrick Neal, in an Anderson Independent-Mail article entitled Mt. Lebanon Elementary is Not Your Grandfather’s School, described it by saying “…as soon as you walk in the front door, you know right away that there’s nothing old-fashioned about it. With an abundance of natural light, brightly colored walls, whimsical colored lighting at strategic spots, curved walls and circular accents throughout, it exudes an organic radiance rare in any building, much less in an elementary school.”
