Our summer interns are joining Craig Gaulden Davis (CGD) from a variety of great architecture schools. Join us as we welcome and introduce this talented group of up-and-coming architects.

Merci Kamate | University of Maryland

Merci is working in the Baltimore office this summer after finishing up his first year in the graduate architecture program at University of Maryland (UMD). A second-generation architect, Merci has strong technical skills and is interested in architecture’s role in human behavior. He is excited by the possibility of creating spaces tailored to an individual’s unique needs. Additionally, he is a teaching assistant and graduate representative to the Architecture Program Curriculum Committee at UM. Merci hails from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and enjoys photography, time with friends, and fishing.

Hayden Duncan | Clemson University

Hayden is back for his fourth summer with Craig Gaulden Davis. Hayden is finishing up his Master of Architecture next year at Clemson University after three years at University of Virginia for undergraduate architecture and four years at The Fine Arts Center architectural program. Hayden is looking forward to engaging professionally in the full spectrum of the design process and seeing a project through completion. Over the years, he’s worked at CGD on K12 projects and is excited about the direct impact of designing learning spaces for kids.  Hayden enjoys hiking, discovering new restaurants, and spending time with friends.

Yarely Smith | Clemson University

Yarely is joining us this summer before she graduates with her Master of Architecture from Clemson University in 2023. We met Yarely through AIA Greenville as she is the Clemson liaison to AIA Greenville, South Carolina, and Columbia. She is excited to find opportunities for students and architects to connect, particularly for students to get hands-on experience at such an early stage. Yarely loves the sustainability of Adaptive Re-use projects and the challenges inherent to intentionally salvaging and creating something new.

Julia Bucci | Illinois Institute of Technology

Julia joins us after completing her first year at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) College of Architecture undergraduate program in Chicago. Following four years of architecture at the Fine Arts Center in Greenville, Julia accepted the prestigious Crown Scholarship to attend IIT. She is loving city-life in Chicago and the opportunity to study and learn in a Mies van der Rohe building.  Julia is excited about designing architectural spaces for communities and the unique experiences the spaces will offer.
