Greenville County Schools appreciated the design of Woodmont High School and asked the design team for a similar school at Travelers Rest. Although the core for Travelers Rest is 400 students less, the layout is similar with changes to the windows and interior finishes giving the school its own identity.
Several challenges with this project included locating the school on a site that lacked enough road frontage to meet the Department of Transportation’s guidelines, high voltage power lines that bisected the site, grades that dropped 88’ from the front to the rear and wetlands on the rear of the property. CGD was able to overcome these challenges by getting the power lines relocated, finding an easement for a bus drive to meet DOT’s regulations and fitting the school, athletic and practice fields on the site.
